Training was on a Monday and Wednesday 7-9. After about 5 or 6 sessions of doing the routine from the side they asked if i would like a place in the troop, i was so excited and said yes immediatly. We were trainging for a few months before it was competition time.
Competitions were on a Sunday normally we had to set off for 9 depend on where it was. I was so nervous i started biting my nails but i totally loved it. We had 5 main sections which were dinkies age 2-5, tinies age 5-12, juniors age 11+ , seniors age 12+ and militry 12+. I only had to dance in one section because i was too young for the others.
When i was about 10 and half the trianer asked if i would like to be tiny mascot, which i would be up front with the leader and could win a placing of my own.
Placing consisted of 1st 2nd and 3rd for leader, mascot and troop overall. Sometimes they would give a award for best dress too, we had to stand still and let a judge examine our outfits for loose threads and such like.
I started as tiny mascot and won a 3rd first competition, after that i mostly got 3rd and 2nd every week. I could feel that 1st so close to my finger tips i really had a passion to win, then the big one came.
Every October was Bridlington Universal Championships, were all the majorettes would travel to Brid and have a week off competition a different section every day.
By this time i was 11 and now had to dance with juniors too.
There were two brilliant troops that won alot in every competition these were East Leeds Comets and Yorkshire Millatires.
I wanted to win best mascot so much, anyway i went out and danced on the tuesday then had to wait a whole 3 days for presentation night.
The night came and we all gathered in our troops into the spa( a big hall in brid). The results came and went for dinkies we won best troop. Next was my section first to be called tiny mascot, i sat there nervous as hell. 3rd Bridlington Red Admirals, 2nd East Leeds Comets, i look up at my trainers in the seating on the balcony(all of them mouthing the words Yorkshire Millatires) then it came.......1st Colne Valley Eaglettes, oh my god i couldnt believe it me i won i won. After that i got 1st nearly every comp and loved every minute of it. I left aged 15 with brilliant memories.
